FAQ: How does the distribution process works when a profile is enabled?

When a distribution profile is enabled and actively running, the system automatically assigns users to applications (apps) based on predefined rules. The process runs in the background.

How long does it take for the system to assign a user to an app?

The distribution feature typically takes up to 2 minutes to automatically assign a user to an app. During this time, the system processes all eligible applications and assigns them accordingly.

What happens if a user manually assigns an app before the distribution process runs?

If a user manually assigns an app to themselves or someone else before the distribution profile executes, the system does not log the assignment under the distribution "logs." This is because the app was already assigned before the automated process could take effect.

How can I confirm whether an app was assigned by the distribution feature or manually?

To verify how an app was assigned:

  • Check the assignment history, if the app appears in the distribution logs, it was assigned by the automated process.

  • If there is no log entry but the app is assigned, it was likely assigned manually before the system could process it.
